AuthorFest joins Winchester students from all Winchester schools with renowned authors and illustrators for a day to share the love of books.

The next AuthorFest event is scheduled for October 17, 2018.

The excitement of meeting a real author and sharing writing tips in person is something a child won’t forget. That experience is at the core of Winchester’s AuthorFest.

Parent volunteers greet visiting authors and assist them with set up and any needs that arise. Parent volunteers share in a fantastic presentation with the students while helping in the classroom. Typically, parents volunteer for either a morning or afternoon shift, depending on the time their child’s class is scheduled to meet with an author.

AuthorFest is made possible with support from the Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence, EnKA, and by contributions from parent associations of Winchester schools. The support of Book Ends makes the AuthorFest book sale, which occurs at the close of the school day, possible.

Please note that Junior AuthorFest is a different program at V-O where each student may showcase and share their own written and illustrated book to classmates and parents.

Leadership of AuthorFest

The chair acts as a liaison between the Community Schools Association, who organizes this event, and the staff of Vinson-Owen. Additionally, the chair is responsible for soliciting and scheduling volunteers for each presentation, advertising as needed in the newsletter and Back to School night, and being present at the school during the event in the role of point person. The Community Schools Association typically schedules one other enrichment activity per year. The chair of AuthoFfest is the liaison for this event as well, and is responsible for ensuring that one person is available to assist with set up for that event.
