Leadership and Administration
Vinson-Owen Parent Association
The leadership of the Vinson-Owen Parent Association is made up of two co-presidents, a vice president, and a number of key administrative posts that are essential to the V-OPA. There are short descriptions of each committee, but feel free to reach out to committee members with specific questions. If you are interested in joining a committee please submit an application below.
The Executive Board provides overall leadership of the V-OPA and facilitates V-OPA meetings. They are also the main liaisons for the school administration.
The treasurer tracks expenses for all VOPA related programs throughout the year. The check writer pays bills and reimbursement checks.
The recording secretary takes minutes at the V-OPA meetings and ensures that they are submitted to the website team to upload prior to the next meeting. This is a 2-person committee, with one person designated for the morning meetings and another for the evening ones.
There are several different committees that work under Communications. These committees are tasked with ensuring important information is relayed to the V-O community through a variety of mediums.
Newsletter editors are responsible for compiling, editing and issuing the weekly newsletter. The editors work closely with the V-OPA Co-Presidents to ensure that the news items are appropriate, and contain timely, relevant and valuable information about the V-O and Winchester community.
The directory team creates online and print versions of the school directory. Responsibilities include moving students up a grade each year, entering new students and kindergartners, assigning class rosters, updating faculty, and then setting up the print version and sending it to press.
The website editors are responsible for gathering and publishing content submitted by the various committees and subcommittees. This includes updating the calendar of events, archiving V-OPA meeting minutes and newsletters, and general upkeep of the website.

The chair helps communicate events and happenings to the local media throughout the academic year.
The graphic designers creates digital flyers and posters to get the word out about a new initiative or event. The graphic designers works behind the scenes to help communicate using visuals.
Ways and Means
The key function of the Ways and Means Committee is to raise money for the V-OPA. It accomplishes this through three main ways: an annual Direct Appeal campaign to all families; a Fall Fundraiser; and Corporate Sponsorship. Each of these fundraising groups have different responsibilities.
The chair contacts businesses and organizations in the greater Winchester area to sponsor events and programs, such as asking local resturants to donate a percentage of their proceeds to V-O on a given night.
The members solicit donations to V-OPA in the beginning of the year, and determine what enrichment, programs and activities should be funded with the Enrichment Chair and V-OPA leadership. Chairs also collect, record, and tracks donations, manage PayPal payments, and perform follow-up with families, including sending thank you letters. Learn more about Direct Appeal here.
The co-chairs coordinate all of the fundraising activities and act as the main liaison between the V-OPA and our business and community sponsors.
The Co-Chairs help raise awareness of the Box Top store. Up to 8% of your purchases will be automatically donated back to V-O.
Clare Corcoran Scholarship
The chair oversees the distribution of this scholarship, named in honor of Dr. Claire Corcoran, the first principal of V.O. The fund provides annual awards to the top WHS seniors who attended V.O. in recognition of their high scholastic achievement upon graduation from Winchester High School.
