Owl ASL Academy - FALL 2025 - Grades 3, 4, 5
NOTE: This class will be taught in silence to allow students to learn in the most optimal environment. The class will be taught by a Deaf teacher (with a non-deaf parent volunteer in each class), and as such, instruction will be conducted in silence, using American Sign Language (ASL) as the primary means of communication as well as using a whiteboard. It is important for all students to understand that this will be a quiet, focused learning environment, and there will be no spoken communication during the lessons.
Description:
This is a six-week pilot class for students who are in Grades 3rd through 5th and want to learn American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Students will learn the ASL alphabet, numbers, colors, feelings, family signs, and simple words through hands-on activities and games. The class will help students use their eyes, hands, and bodies to communicate in a fun and friendly way.
This class provides a unique opportunity for students to not only learn a valuable skill but also immerse themselves in an authentic environment where Deaf culture and communication take center stage.
To ensure that all students have the best experience possible, we kindly ask that they come prepared to:
Respect the silent learning atmosphere and actively engage using ASL.
Remain seated and refrain from disruptive behavior during class.
Show respect for the Deaf culture and the instructor, as this is an important part of the learning process.
This class is designed for children who are truly interested in learning Sign Language, and we ask for your support in ensuring that your child is ready to focus and participate in this special experience.
